We’d also like to share a big thank you to Donna, who will be stepping down as Secretary after many years of service to the WCS Edmonton Community.

If you’re interested in getting more involved or joining the board, please let us know before the AGM. If you send us a photo and a paragraph about you, we will include it below.

Candidates Standing for Election

President Candidate

Kyle Loranger

Running for: President

I’m seeking to be re-elected as President of the West Coast Swing Addicts Dance Society. Having completed two terms as president, this next term will be about laying the ground work to pass the baton onto the next generation of community leaders.

I’m super proud of the community that we all have built, and I’m looking forward to making WCS Edmonton events as welcoming as ever. Sharing the fun of this dance with our friends and neighbours has been a real joy.

See you on the dance floor!

Secretary Candidate

Jonathan Baillie

Running for: Secretary or Board Member

I would like to run for either Recording Secretary or Board member. I think I would be a good candidate because I’m quite active in the community and would love to see this community grow and flourish.  I think the WCS community is such an amazing community. I’m typically at most dances and help with setup and sometimes tear down.  I would love to do what I can to help grow and build this community.  I dance as much west coast swing as I can get in and actively travel to events. I fell this will help for me to be able to give positive input and add to discussions. I just hope to be able to add to the wonderful board that’s there.

Member At Large Candidates

Karen Benrot

Running for: Board Member

I am seeking re-election as a member-at-large.

My first term was a success. I have learned quite a bit about this organization and what it takes to build a great community out of something you love.

I have been involved with West Coast Edmonton for ten years now, and I absolute love it. I love meeting new dancers all the way to the veteran dancers.  I am encouraged by everyone who comes out to the dances, and I would love to continue to see this community grow and thrive.

Stevie Chen

Running for: Board Member

Good day Members and Board of West Coast Swing Addicts,

I’m Stevie Chen, and I want to be part of the WCSA board. In particular, I’m excited to apply for a board member at large position to bring my drive and desire to grow our wonderful community.

In my military career and over twenty years of dancing I’ve learned to be an active listener, to find ways to improve communication and follow through on tasks. Combined with my West Coast Swing passion and my drive to keep improving, we can work together to build a stronger community of dancers.

I’ll do my best to advocate for the organization and serve our community.

Thank you for your time. If you’d like to get to know me better, you can find me @steviesteviecool

Roxanne Loberg

Running for: Board Member

Roxanne Loberg here,  I would like to put my name forward for one of the general board positions that are available.

I have been taking WCS lessons and dancing for just over two years. I love the dance and the community that is being built here by the WCS Addicts.

I am single and have enjoyed the atmosphere created and maintained by the group. I can come and go and dance in safety without any drugs, alcohol or vulgarity of any kind.  Important for single women.

I also appreciate the instructors and older in profession dancers mingling with less experienced dancers and enjoying it!

I usually come early to help set up. I also try to make a point of introducing myself to new people I notice. I also invite newbies to the stage if they come after we’ve already started It really helps newbies to feel less nervous about starting something they’ve never done before and more like they are seen and welcomed.

Dominic Minty

Running for: Board Member

I am a valuable asset to the West Coast Swing Addicts dance community because I bring strong fundamentals, musicality and a positive attitude to every class and social. I focus on creating a comfortable, connected experience with each partner, adapting my style to match different skill levels so that both beginners and advanced dancers feel successful. I take pride in maintaining good floor craft etiquette and helping create a safe and welcoming dance environment. Beyond my own dancing, I actively encourage others, offer constructive feedback when appropriate and contribute to an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels motivated to improve and enjoy the dance.

I also look for ways to help the club grow and modernize. I have been introducing updated music playlists that reflect current trends while still honoring classic West Coast Swing rhythms, keeping our socials engaging and relevant. I am interested in organizing workshops focused on technique, musicality and mentorship opportunities to better support new dancers. I always look to expand our current thriving community by combining consistent participation, setup/teardown assistance, workshop recommendations and music setlists. I not only contribute on the dance floor but also help ensure our club continues to evolve, stay current, and thrive. Please consider me as I run for Board Member at Large. Thank you

Laurie Modien

Running for: Board Member

I am seeking reelection as Member at Large for West Coast Swing Addicts Edmonton. I believe I continue to be a strong board member because I bring proven strengths in event planning, organization, and community networking. I enjoy creating well-run events that bring dancers together, and I’m committed to building connections within and beyond our local scene to help our community grow. My focus is on keeping things organized behind the scenes while helping ensure our events are welcoming, engaging, and successful for everyone involved.
